There are always a large number of jobs to be filled with
not enough primary care physicians to fill them. Specialists seem to
outnumber family practice physicians and pediatricians 2:1, when the need is
certainly more prevalent in the primary care clinics. According to the
American Academy of Family Physicians, “Since 1997, US Medical school graduates
in family medicine and general internal medicine programs have fallen by nearly
50%.” I think that this describes why the United States is not on the
same level as other industrialized countries around the world inthe healthcare
industry. Even if our current president creates a system to cover the
nation’s 46 million uninsured, we will not have enough primary care physicians
to see them. So how are we ever going solve our country’s healthcare
dilemma if we don’t fix both sides of the equation?
