I have had the privilege of working with two amazing women for the past two years—Dr. Rachael Consoli and Dr. Donna Hephinger. I began working with them both in the first few months at Delta Locum Tenens and continue to work with them to this day.
I want to highlight some of the greatness I have learned about them. Dr. Hephinger resides in Alaska but travels to Washington 1-3 times per month. Often she brings her mom along on the assignment where they can spend the days together while she works at night. Dr. Hephinger has been working locums for many years and knows she could easily take every holiday off if she desired—but no not this year (and not the last year either) she just recently picked up all of the shifts surrounding our winter holidays to help out the client. She is a gem.
Now Dr. Consoli is a rare breed. She just recently finished a stint of working 38 emergency medicine shifts in a row!!! When I asked her in the middle of this block if she was tired yet her response was “no why would I be tired?” Dr. Consoli enjoys working her tail off and will do so as long as she can—so on her time off she can afford to use her talents on medical mission trips. Most of our conversations are done by voicemail as she also enjoys the nights shifts—but nonetheless I always enjoy hearing her voice.
The reason “Donna and Rachael” (they never put doctor in front when they answer the phone) enjoy locums is the flexibility the lifestyle it can provide for themselves and their families.
