I was plodding along in my daily routine, making calls and sending e-mails, when I received a phone call from a distraught physician. Dr. Puelma explained his situation to me: his assignment was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances; he and his wife were getting the proverbial boot from their hotel the next morning; and, he had nowhere to stay for more than a week or two. We chatted for awhile and found a way to remedy the situation.
At this time in my career, I had never met any of the doctors with which I worked. I didn’t know that such a short-lived experience would have such a long-term effect.
On their way through Dallas, I met Dr. and Mrs. Puelma for lunch at a local French eatery; I had him sign some credentialing papers and we ate a delicious meal. The three of us ended up chatting for several hours about anything and everything. Through this conversation, I came to realize how much I was helping him and his family. I became conscious of how my actions and decisions affected the lives of my physicians and the lives of those around them. At that moment, I fully appreciated my career as a physician recruiter.
I want to thank Dr. and Mrs. Puelma for putting things into perspective for me; it has made all the difference.
