DALLAS, TEXAS – November 12, 2009 – The Delta Companies recently competed for the American Staffing Association’s VOICE (vision, originality, innovation, creativity, and effectiveness) awards, honoring the best communications campaigns in the staffing industry.  

The firm’s in-house advertising team took home 11 awards in eight categories and won Best of Show, given to the best overall single entry in each class.  The Delta Companies has taken the top honor twice in the last three years.  

The enterprise and each of The Delta Companies’ four healthcare staffing business units were recognized in the categories of print advertising, specialty advertising, multimedia, media relations, web site, public service, publication, and company identification.

No other staffing firm was honored with more awards in this year’s competition.  The Delta Companies has now won a total of 24 VOICE Awards in the last four years, including twice winning Best of Show.

ASA VOICE Awards winners were honored October 23rd at Staffing World® 2009, the ASA convention and expo, in Orlando, Florida.

This year The Delta Companies ranked twenty-ninth among midsize companies.  Employees were surveyed by an independent research firm and asked to provide feedback on topics such as the company’s work environment, people practices, personal growth and development, leadership in the organization, and employee recognition. 

The Delta Companies has also been named one of Texas Monthly’s “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” for the last three years, solidifying the staffing firm as a best workplace on both state and local levels.

Thank you to Jason Ard, Delta Locums recruiter, for his outstanding customer service with one of our physicians recently.  The excerpt below is an email we received from that doctor in regards to Jason:

Dear Mr. Heil,

I am writing you this email to let you know about an exceptional experience that I had working with Jason Ard.  I had missed my Thursday evening flight to Rapid City SD.  I called Jason’s number just to let him know what had happened not expecting that he would answer that late in the evening, but to my surprise he did answer.  He straightened out all the complications from missing my original flight.  By the time I landed in Denver he had a hotel room reserved and had my flight booked for the next morning to Rapid City so that I could make it to my orientation on time the following day.    He even had a bottle of wine at the hotel for me, because he knew I was stressed.    I really cannot say enough good things about Jason.  He even called to make sure that I made to Denver safely which was around midnight, as well as the next day in Rapid City.   I feel that he went above and beyond, Jason is wonderful individual.  I just thought you should know about the outstanding job he did and I how much I appreciated all his hard work.

I was watching television last night when I heard, or rather saw a famous proverb that I hadn’t thought about since my high school latin days.  The verse reads: "Omnia mea mecum porto." This translates into: I carry with me all my things.  As soon as I thought about it, it reminded me, at least on the surface, of the locum business.

Of course the story from which the proverb comes has nothing to do with traveling physicians.  It is the story of Simonides, a Greek wise man that was shipwrecked and lost all his possessions.  In the light of this tragedy, instead of losing his nerve,  he claimed “Omnia mea mecum porto,” or, “ I carry with me all my things”.  Although he was suddenly without money or clothes, he still had means: He had his knowledge, experience, desire.  Naturally in the end he is able to use these assets to gain back his wealth.

 

I guess the parallel that I draw is more the ideal of the proverb.  The physicians that work for Delta Locum Tenens are the physical embodiment of the verse.  They literally travel with their knowledge, experience and desire to help people in places, many times, they have never been.  Modern day drifters, but with a purpose.  No hospital is too busy or location too remote for these intrepid neo-explorers.

 

Phaedrus’ tale of Simonides’ wisdom, although written long ago, is still viable to modern situations.  That’s why it stuck out to me I guess - something ancient applicable to the job I do every day.  And I love it because the stories of our doctor’s in the ERs, surgery suites, and ORs of hospitals everyday all across the United States are being written still, and I am a part of that story.
