Your "N" Should Always Equal "3"

Remembering back to the fundamentals of the Scientific Method, we were taught that our ‘N’ should always equal three or greater.  The same basic principle holds true with several aspects in the locum tenens marketplace.

In my experience I have found a good locum tenens’ candidate has the following:

·         3 or more state licenses (home state and two surrounding states, this will allow you to move around a central area for work)

·         Presented to 3 or more opportunities (because the acceptance rate is around 30%)

·         3 shifts, 3 weeks, or 3 months of availability (depending on specialty)

·         Is an active candidate with 3 reputable agencies (visit www.nalto.org for reputable agencies, allows you to work with enough recruiters to keep your schedule full)

·         Holds availability for 3 days after presentation to allow for acceptance by facility (this will keep you from double booking and having to back out of an assignment)

·         Has 3 copies of all important documents (one electronic, one at home, one back up copy not at home, because you never know when you will need a back up)

It is also important for candidates to know that a good, qualified candidate is accepted to roughly 30% of the jobs they are presented to and the average fill rate for a locum job is roughly the same at 30%.
